Meet Artist Carolyn Daniel

June 6, 2017

The next artist featured in the Look Walls Artist Series Collection is Carolyn Daniel of Carolyn Joe Art. I was drawn to Carolyn’s fun, playful and brilliantly colored art after a friend introduced me to her work. Once you meet Carolyn, the origins of her art are obvious; the pieces are extensions of her cheerful and joyful spirit. If you haven’t see her portrait of Willie Nelson, check it out, and you’ll see how she views life through brightly colored glasses.

The pieces we chose for the Artist Series Collection range from a subtle seaside interpretation in “To the Coast” to a rich fuchsia and mint-colored Miami Vice inspired print in “Miami.” It’s amazing to me how she can give the ocean so many different faces. She says she loves how the ocean is constantly moving and changing, and yet, is steady at the same time. It can be soothing, but saturated with color, she says.

Carolyn also finds inspiration in everyday emotions and her many travels. The “Pueblo Montana” piece takes you straight to a mountain village with its blocks of vibrantly textured colors. “Happy Tears” is just perfect. Its rich hues look like big tears of joy landed on her canvas. I can see this in a hotel lobby where passers-by would stop to stare and smile. I love that she gives us enough to get started, but leaves a lot of room for our imagination as well.

“Art’s for everyone,” Carolyn strongly believes. Art is not only an oil painting hanging in a gallery…She’s turned her designs into plates, leggings, and now wallcovering. She wants art to transform a space, and bring joy to all who see it.

Enlarging the scale of Carolyn’s vivacious prints to fill a wall has been a treat. Carolyn and I are both excited to merge our vision and see where her art ends up. Like she said, this is a “visually playful partnership.” She’s looking forward to playing with the textures and sheens of the textiles to how the brushstrokes pop from the grasscloth as well as the other more pearlized papers.

Look Walls and Carolyn also share a VERY special connection… Her Grampy founded Royse Manufacturing Company just down the street from where Look Walls is headquartered in Dallas. During the 1950s-1980s, he invented patented printing equipment – much of which is still in use today – even at Look Walls! It seems like destiny that Carolyn’s art is being printed using that same technology – and just a block away from where her Grampy worked. I love it!

The complete Artist Series Look Book will be available soon. I can’t wait to share more of Carolyn’s art with you
